Neolithic Man The Thinker

In 1956 in Romania, there was a village called Cenadovă (outside of Constanta). At the opening of a new channel on the Danube riverbank, excavations revealed a Neolithic necropolis. Archaeologists have found a number of scattered skeletons and findings of each species, from the race called Hamangia, an early agricultural society that appears at 6000 BC. Among the findings were two terracotta figurines of unique beauty, the “Thinker” and “The sitting woman” which dated back to 5000BC. The form is a continuous game of switching arcs and straight, full of curves and stringent levels. Oxymoron but still really rich simplicity characterizes. The female figure sitting on the ground, back, happy and fruitful. The male figure is sitting on stool, sad, with both hands to support the head, lost in reflections. Thousands of years passed until you revisit something similar. The National Archaeological Museum of Romania present them as a couple but there is no archaeological evidence for this. What does it matter though? The common perception is the human couple, life and death, constant change and earlier and more after and forever.
